Interested in modern history of Prague during World War II and communism?
Do the names Oskar Fleischer, Jan Palach and Klement Gottwald ring a bell? Do you know what life was like in Czechoslovakia during the 50 years of a totalitarian regime? And why one of the most interesting Jewish museums is located in Prague? This tour is designed to give a full understanding and bring you closer to the events under the rule of a dictatorial regime, which had ruled our country for over 50 years.
Together we explore the most important places connected with WWII and communist regime in our country. At first we’re going to visit memorial plaque on Národní street, talking about students who were brutally stopped by communist police. After a short walk we move to a museum dedicated to brave Czech paratroopers, who successfully assassinated Reinhard Heydrich – a butcher of Prague, but finally
died in a fight against 700 Germans. The next stop is a Wenceslas square, a place where a lot of demonstrations against communist totalitarian regime took a place. You’ll be moved by stories of people who stood up against oppressions and were ready to put their lives for a hope of possible change.
We also take a look on a former headquarters of Gestapo in Prague, which was a place people feared the most. Once you got in, you never returned. From there we walk directly to the Old Town Square and Jewish quarter, where several other stories of World War II will be mentioned. And you will get an answer why is it possible that we still have Jewish sights in a city, which was occupied from the very beginning of the war.
